Mythical creatures coin series: Griffin released

Posted in Blog, Coins, Design, Illustration

I’m pretty excited to announce the launch of a new series of 1oz silver coins I illustrated for Coin Club (now Australian Gold & Silver Exchange). The series is called “Mythical Creatures” and will feature 5 different mythical creatures. I believe we are going to be offering an extremely limited edition of 50 signed by myself (I won’t be signing any more after that) but I’m not sure when these will be available. I will post an update here when I find out so be sure to watch this space!

Below is some more information on the series from the Coin Club website:

The coin’s reverse portrays a coloured griffin against the backdrop of a mountain peak and sky. Included in the design is the inscription ‘griffin’ and the monetary denomination. The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2013 year-date.

This beautiful series focuses onand showcases five mythical creatures. This coin program will raise a sum of $25,000 as charity funds for UNICEF-Australia.Struck by The Perth Mint on behalf of Coin Club Australia from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, the coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.

The Griffin is a mythical creature thought to be the offspring of an eagle and lion. Its head and wings are those of an eagle, while its body resembles that of a lion. This legendary animal is known for its speed, ability to fly and piercing vision, combined with the leonine qualities of courage and strength. Traditionally believed to roost in high places, the griffin has been represented variously as a guardian of priceless possession, justice and divinity.
